Signing the purchase agreement and building contract
Managed to secure a new-build home in a draw? Congratulations! Now you need to sign the purchase agreement and building contract. This is a contract you sign for a new house still under construction. Effectively, you buy the land or part of the land on which the house will eventually be built and enter into a building contract for its construction. The contract is usually drafted by the estate agent.

Deed of transfer on completion
When ownership of your house officially transfers to you, you, the seller and the civil-law notary sign the deed of transfer, which also includes the agreements made in the purchase agreement and building contract. In new construction projects, the seller usually pays the cost of the deed of transfer (no additional costs payable by the buyer). Once everyone has signed the deed, the civil-law notary enters it in the land registry. You then officially own your brand-new home!
